About
Ballarò is Palermo's oldest street market, running through the Albergheria quarter from Piazza Ballarò toward Corso Tukory, with roots tracing back to Arab rule around the 10th century. Stalls call out prices in the traditional abbanniata chant while selling produce, fish and spices, and the market is equally known for street food: fried cazzilli (potato croquettes), arancine, boiled octopus, and pani ca meusa, a sandwich of stewed veal spleen and lung, sold from stands that have worked the same corners for generations.
