Wat Phra That Doi Kham

Known as the Temple of the Golden Mountain, Wat Phra That Doi Kham sits atop a hill in the Mae Hia sub-district, about 10 kilometres south-west of central Chiang Mai, and is older and quieter than its better-known neighbour Doi Suthep. The complex is dominated by a 17-metre-tall standing Buddha statue, Phra Phuttha Sakyamuni, visible from the surrounding valley. From the hilltop terrace around the temple's chedi, the view opens over Chiang Mai's southern outskirts, rice fields and the surrounding hills, largely without the crowds that gather at Doi Suthep.
