Villa Cimbrone - Terrace of Infinity

Villa Cimbrone stands on a clifftop above Ravello, its grounds dating in part to the 11th century and reshaped into an English-style garden in the early 1900s by Lord Grimthorpe. Its best-known feature is the Terrazza dell'Infinito, or Terrace of Infinity, a stone balustrade lined with classical marble busts that seems to end in mid-air above the Gulf of Salerno. From here the coastline and open sea stretch out with no visible boundary between water and sky, which gave the terrace its name. Greta Garbo is among the well-known figures once drawn here.
