Senaru Crater Rim

The Senaru Crater Rim, also known as Plawangan Senaru, is the most accessible of Mount Rinjani's viewpoints, reached via a two-to-three day trek from Senaru village on the volcano's northern side. Camps at the rim sit around 2,600 metres, looking down into the caldera at Segara Anak, a crescent-shaped crater lake, and Gunung Barujari, a smaller active cone that has erupted within it repeatedly in recent decades. Sunset over the crater, with Rinjani's outer slopes falling away toward the coast, is the main reason trekkers make the climb.
