Miradouro da Serra do Pilar

This viewpoint sits beside the circular 16th-century Monastery of Serra do Pilar, on the Vila Nova de Gaia side of the Douro, directly across from Porto's historic centre. From the terrace, at roughly 60 metres above the river, the view takes in the upper deck of the Dom Luis I bridge at eye level, the colourful houses of the Ribeira climbing the opposite bank, and the port wine cellars lining the riverfront below. The monastery and viewpoint are part of the Ribeira/Dom Luis UNESCO World Heritage listing, and the spot draws crowds at sunset when the light hits Porto's rooftops.
