Mercato Trionfale

Dating to the late 1800s, when it began as a stop for travelers and hunters passing through what was then countryside on Via Giulio Cesare, Mercato Trionfale later moved to Via Andrea Doria as the Prati district grew, and in March 2009 settled into its current indoor building. With more than 270 stalls, it is one of the largest food markets in Italy and Europe, near the Vatican walls -- a working neighborhood market where Roman households buy meat, fish, cheese, produce and fresh pasta rather than a tourist stop.
