Loulé Municipal Market

Opened in June 1908 and designed by Lisbon architect Alfredo Costa Campos, Loulé's municipal market is built in a neo-Moorish style, with four pavilions, arched gateways and domed towers that make it the town's architectural landmark. Restored between 2004 and 2007, it remains the largest covered market in southern Portugal. Stalls sell fresh fish, local produce, cured meats, cheeses, nuts and Algarve specialties like dried figs and honey, drawing both residents doing their weekly shop and visitors browsing the tiled, arcaded halls, especially busy on Saturday mornings.
