About

Designed in 1949 and opened in 1952 as a municipal fresh market, Mercado do Bom Sucesso stands out for its reinforced-concrete vaulted roof and large skylights, an unusually modern design for its time. Closed for renovation in 2011 and classified a building of public interest, it reopened in 2013 as a food hall on Praça do Bom Sucesso, keeping its original structure while gathering stalls under one roof -- from fresh produce and seafood counters to small kitchens serving Portuguese and international dishes. The rehabilitation won Porto a national urban-renewal award in 2014.
