Maiori Friday Market

Every Friday morning, stalls fill Piazza Mercato in Maiori for the largest weekly market on the Amalfi Coast, running roughly from 8am to 1pm. Vendors set up along the town's seafront street selling fresh produce -- above all the region's lemons, Maiori's main agricultural product, grown on the surrounding terraced groves -- plus fish, cheese, household goods and clothing. It draws people from villages along the coast rather than tour groups, functioning as the practical weekly shop for a town that otherwise runs on tourism, and it is one of the few coastal markets held right on the water.
