About

Mercado Central occupies an Art Nouveau building designed by Alexandre Soler and Francesc Guàrdia, built between 1914 and 1928 on the site of the old Mercat Nou. Covering more than 8,000 square metres beneath a 30-metre central dome tiled with fruit motifs, it is one of Europe's largest fresh-produce markets. Hundreds of stalls sell Valencian produce, cured ham, rice for paella, fresh seafood and horchata ingredients, with small tapas counters tucked between the fishmongers and greengrocers.
